SARAH DOWLING | Punchdrunk (London, UK)
IMMERSIVE STORYTELLING
Week Two: Monday, 13 July - Saturday, 18 July 2026
Through the week will we will play and practice with immersive dance theatre techniques.
Proximity with the audience will be a focus - how can it enhance connection between performer and audience and act as a creative resource for the performer/maker.
Working with both the exquisite detail of physical gesture and the full throttle embodied movement of the choreographic we will push and expand into our range as performers/makers.
You can expect to play seriously for our time together and hopefully unearth some new strategies for telling stories through solo improvisation, contact work and working as an ensemble.
Punchdrunk’s immersive theatre practice is the source of my approach after 20 plus years with the company. The desire to immerse the audience meant that we put a heightened attention on the power of the senses in storytelling; touch or near touch , smell, sound are all zoomed in on. The workshop will tap in to the resource of the sensory experience and my hope is that immersive theatre techniques gained here can be then applied to your own creative practices across art forms.

ELLEN LAUREN | SITI Company (New York, USA) + SCOT/Suzuki Company of Toga (Japan)
PRACTICE AND MAKING
Week One: Monday, 6 July - Saturday, 11 July 2026
-
The workshop teaches the principles and vocabulary of both the Suzuki Method of Actor Training and The Viewpoints training. Developed by acclaimed director, Tadashi Suzuki and the Suzuki Company of Toga, (SCOT) the Suzuki training’s principal concern is with uncovering each actor's innate expressive abilities, and concentration. Innovated by the artist Mary Overlie, the Viewpoints develops flexibility, articulation, and strength of perception for both the individual and ensemble. Morning training will be spent in deep practice with both methods. Afternoons will be devoted to learning new skills regarding the art of speaking on the stage.
Ellen Lauren is a founding member of SITI company with Anne Bogart, a faculty member at the Juilliard School for over 30 years and has been a SCOT member for over 40 years. She is uniquely qualified to offer both experienced and artists new to the work, a significant exploration into an integrated body, voice and mind preparation for making work, and performance. a stronger connection between body, breathing and voice, and deepening one’s emotional and intellectual commitment to the creative act.
